The Jewish question in Berlin has become complicated. The party has smeared Jewish shops, probably at the initiative of Helldorff. Funk went into action. He wants to do it all legally. But it takes so long. In the meantime, there have been incidents of plundering. The participants were gypsies and other shady elements. I am putting them all into concentration camps. Helldorff twisted my orders to mean the exact opposite. I had said: the police acts with a legal face, the party is the audience. The opposite is now the case. I ordered all party officials to give new orders. All illegal acts must be brought to a halt. The Jews should clean up their shops by themselves. Funk should hurry up with his measures. And besides, this form of popular justice had its good sides. The Jews are frightened and will not regard Berlin as their land of dreams.... In the evening, a big celebration at the Olympic Stadium. An impressive sight. The celebration is grand. The last part of the 9th symphony performed by thousands of musicians and singers. Torches, flags, big fireworks create the end. Jubilation and applause as I leave. At home, corrected a speech. Laid down the situation of the Jews with Goering. He also makes efforts to stop the offences. In all the rest, the battle against Jewry goes on by legal means until the last step of the gallows. It has to be done! In bed late and tired. Today was another hard day.
